Forklift of the Year Awards 2015

The Forklift of the Year Awards panel has decided on their nominations and chosen a selection of 14 trucks from a range of manufacturers to compete for the top prize in their respective categories. New trucks, improved vehicles and specially developed systems that have come on to the market since December 2013 were all eligible for nomination, with the judges working hard to decide which one was their pick.

The manufacturers that made the cut were Clark, jungheinrich, Still, Toyota, Material Handling and Unicarriers. These manufacturers were deemed to have provided “the best in innovation” across the various categories. These categories are:

Counter Balanced Trucks up to 3.5t

In this category, the first nomination was for Jungheinrich’s EFG S30s electric truck. This truck was designed with usability in mind, and its creation has helped redesign the way workplaces are used.

The second nomination was given to Still for their RX 20 electric forklift. The sales of more than 50,000 are testament to the quality of the truck, which can lift 1.6t and be used indoors and outdoors.

Finally, the Tonero HST LPG from Toyota rounds up the nominees. With a load capacity ranging from 2.5t to 3.5t, this model features an LPG version of the combustion-engined hydrostatic model that its counterparts have.

Counter Balanced Trucks over 3.5t

DFG 540s (Jungheinrich) – this diesel forklift comes with five superb operating programs, and an ergonomically designed workplace to complement its lifting capacity of 4t.

RX 60-80 (Still) – this high performance electric forklift is the follow up to the RX 60 and is designed for lifting heavy loads. Weighing 8t, it has a very small turning circle for its size (3m).

Traigo 80 (Toyota) – Able to carry loads of 4t, 4.5t and 5t, this 80v electric forklift is designed for heavy-duty use while simultaneously boasting improved energy efficiency.

Tonero (Toyota) – the Japanese manufacturer’s second nomination has a comprehensive lifting range of 3.5t to 8t, and its new industrial engine means it can deliver strong acceleration and speed without heavy fuel consumption.

Warehouse Trucks

There were five nominees in this category, starting with the CBX4 from Clark Europe. The CBX4 is the first people and burden carrier to reach the IFOY test, and it was developed specially for in-plant transport in large premises i.e. factories.

BT Levio LPE (Toyota) – designed for medium to heavy-duty use, with a 2.5t load bearing capacity and a surprisingly agile 12.5 km/h top speed, the BT Levio LPE is ideal for unloading and loading trucks.

ECE 225 (Jungheinrich) – with a top speed of 14km/h, ergonomic design and a focus on handling, this horizontal picker for Jungheinrich has proved very popular.

FM-X (Still) – Available with load capacities ranging from 1 to 2.5t, its small size belies a large reach height of 13m and a residual capacity of 1t. The load stabilisation system also helps minimise vibrations for optimum user comfort.

Tergo URS (Unicarriers) – this narrow aisle and reach truck from Unicarriers has a lifting height of 10.35m and can carry loads of up to 1.5t, making the ideal successor for the Tergo URF.
